THE HUNGER
GAMES

142 MINS

FRI-WED 5/16: 8PM
LAST DAY WED!

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

SPIELPALAST CABARET

SATURDAY, JUNE 2 / 8PM / $25 ADVANCE / $30 DAY OF
The tang of burlesque is rampant in this always-evolving theatrical presentation filled with rip-roaring musical numbers, naughty innuendos, cunning commentary and dazzling dancehall floozies.

Take a journey out of time with Max, the foolhardy emcee, a dozen exquisite dancing ladies, and a motley troupe of satirists all backed by a rowdy and rollicking house orchestra. With saucy cigar girls, decorous decadence and Weimar style wit, this unique troupe of degenerates guarantees a playful, sassy cabaret featuring burlesque and vaudeville at its very best!

Just back from her maiden voyage across the pond, the Spielpalast Cabaret wet her feet (and her whistle!) at Edinburgh Scotland’s Fringe Theater Festival last summer. Now, feeling loose, lubricated, and a little saucy, Spielpalast Cabaret returns to Waitsfield’s Big Picture Theater on Saturday, June 2.

CELEBRATE OUR 5TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY BY HELPING
US "GREEN UP" FOR AN EFFICIENT FUTURE
The Big Picture Theater & Café in Waitsfield VT celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and is reaching out to the community for support in helping make it more sustainable in the years to come.

It’s been an exciting ride for Big Picture since its founding in 2006.  What was once a faltering movie house has become a vibrant café, first run and art-house theater, concert and live event venue, and, above all, community gathering space.  After incorporating the Very Small Donut Company and lending support to Small Step Farm, Big Picture has been able in so many ways to fulfill its wildest dreams.  Thanks to its dedicated staff and the people of this remarkable valley, Big Picture has become more than just a theater/café but the Mad River Valley’s primary hub for cultural, social, and community events and programming.

But Big Picture’s biggest dream is to make sure that this positive investment in the community is a lasting one.  “We see too many vital community institutions close across the country and in Vermont,” says Becker.  “Community centers being lost to big business.  We want Big Picture to be here for generations.” (read more)
